Quantum Cramér-Rao Bounds for Waveform Estimation with Open Systems    [PDF]

This paper studies quantum limits to waveform estimation in the presence of decoherence. A modified purification approach is used to obtain tighter quantum Cram\'er-Rao bounds that can account for information lost to the environment. Two examples, namely, optomechanical force sensing and lossy optical phase estimation, are studied.
